Curling DEI initiatives in action with Melvin Lee



Melvin Lee, a curling consultant from Ottawa, joins us once again to talk about his recent curling experiences. Melvin is trying to grow the sport within the BIPOC community of his hometown and tells us about his experience hosting a learn to curl at his home club. He also discusses his recent trip to Korea where he curling with 2018 Olympic silver medalists Team Kim.

We’ve documented the trials and tribulations that Korea’s Team Kim Eun-jung experienced during and after their Olympic silver medal. Well, now we get to hear about the happy part of their story. The part where Team Kim earned its way back to the Olympics. We are joined by coach Peter Gallant and curling consultant Melvin Lee to discuss Team Kim’s journey to qualify for Beijing and the new support system they have in place for this Olympics. This led to a discussion of governance in curling and how it’s changed since curling became an Olympic sport.

Curling Case Study: Indiana’s Fort Wayne Curling Club



Fort Wayne Curling Club has had an interesting history. The club in northeast Indiana starting curling on skating ice in 2010. Since then, they’ve moved not once, but twice to two different dedicated curling rinks. How did this club go from arena ice to a three-sheet dedicated facility to another four-sheet facility? We asked president Craig Fischer about the club’s journey and about the obstacles they overcame to achieve their dreams.
